First discovered more than 150 years ago and located in the Sierra El Fraile, the attractions within the Grutas de Garcia caves are reached by funicular railway, which affords stunning views on its journey upwards. Expect to see ancient stalagmites and stalactites, along with petrified formations and illuminated passage ways, which stretch for around 2.5 km / 1.5 miles.

This large canyon is around 300 metres / 985 feet in depth and offers endless photo opportunities, so make sure you bring your camera. Situated approximately 35 km / 22 miles from Monterrey and off the Highway 85 are the breathtaking 25-metre / 82-foot Horsetail Falls, known locally in Mexico as the 'Cascada Cola de Caballo'. The site itself is home to a number of appealing attractions, such as food stalls, horse riding and endless picnic spots. Around 6 km / 4 miles from the waterfalls is the small village of El Mercado, with regular buses connecting Monterrey bus station, making this a popular day trip for tourists.

Presa La Boca lies around 33 km / 21 miles from Monterrey and is a large and scenic lake, often known simply as 'La Boca' and formed by the Rodrigo Gómez Dam. Many locals from the city of Monterrey head here for the water sports attractions, which include boating and windsurfing. The Presa La Boca is also well known for its excellent walking trails and fishing opportunities, and there are always fishermen dotted around the perimeter, angling for 'the one that got away'.
