Monterrey Weather and Climate: Summer picture of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo LeonThe climate in the Mexican city of Monterrey is often described a subtropical, arid and humid, with warm to hot weather all through the year. Influenced by the surrounding mountains, canyons and forests, the climate in Monterrey varies only slightly, month by month, season by season, with gradual temperature changes.

Daytime temperatures usually stay well above 20°C / 68°F in Monterrey, often topping 38°C / 100°F in June, July and August, when the many air-conditioned buildings, cars and hotels are welcomed. However, during the winter months, from December to February, the nights can be quite nippy and temperatures quickly drop to below 10°C / 50°F, meaning that a change of clothing is often required. The winter months in Monterrey can feature a fairly humid climate, although frosty and snowy weather is extremely rare and virtually unheard of.

Rainy weather in Monterrey is at its most likely between May and September, being especially scarce outside of this period. In general, these rain showers in Monterrey often only last for less than one hour and often fall towards the end of the day, cooling the hot days and creating pleasant, fresh evenings and particularly lush surrounding scenery. When the rain is at its heaviest, the streets around parts of Monterrey have been known to flood briefly.

Cooling winds are at their most prevalent in April, and again during the autumn months, when it is possible to experience the remnants of a hurricane. For many, the springtime climate is amongst the best time to visit Monterrey, when temperatures are warm and precipitation levels low.
