Museums and cultural attractions in Monterrey have much to offer tourists and many are extremely family orientated, featuring a number of hands-on activities and seasonal events. Children and adults alike in Monterrey will always enjoy the endless scientific and astronomical attractions within the Alpha Arts Museum and Planetarium (Centro Cultural Alfa Museo y Planetario).
If you have an interest in the country's chequered past, then stop by the city's Museum of Mexican History (Museo de Historia Mexicana), being part of the Gran Plaza itself and located in central Monterrey. These museums and more are shown below.

The Museum of Mexican History is always worth a visit and was founded in 1994. Within this attraction, visitors will discover well-organised information about the country's past, in a chronological order, ranging from ancient Mexico and the Colonial Era, right up to the country of today. Further exhibits concentrate on the ecology of the rain forest and the Mayan calendar, with high-tech interactive displays and touch-screen computers. A cafe with free Internet access is situated on the lower level.

The breathtaking cultural complex that is the Centro Cultural Alfa is quite unmissable and is quite dramatic in its appearance, with modern architecture resembling a slanting tower and a large water feature filled with fountains. Inside the centre are various floors dedicated to astronomy, sciences, computers and even various antiquities. The numerous hands-on exhibits are always of interest to young children, along with the Omnimax cinema, the central planetarium and its sky shows, and also the Museum of Science, Art and Technology (Museo de Ciencia, Arte y Tecnologia).

Enjoying an elevated position on the western side of Monterrey's Zona Rosa district, the Museo del Obispado houses a small and yet significant collection of colonial relics, historic artefacts and memorabilia relating to past events. Formerly the Bishopric Palace, the building itself dates back to the late 18th century and on fine days, boasts superb city views.

The Monterrey Glass Museum (Museo del Vidrio) is located on the northern side of the Avenida Colon and is dedicated to the history and manufacturing of glass within the country. Many appealing exhibits are housed within the museum itself, including 'pulque' glass pieces from the 18th century, and even an authentic recreation of a traditional stained-glass workshop from the 19th century. A gallery shop offers the chance to purchase an array of glassworks, of varying sizes and prices, while the regular glass blowing demonstrations are always of interest.
